Thank you Atlanta for another great Solarize program!

We’re Back — and Better Than Ever!

Solarize Atlanta makes going solar easier and more affordable for more homes and businesses in Atlanta. It’s been almost 2 years since the first Solarize Atlanta program broke records for the most “rooftop” solar deployed in a Solarize program in Georgia but a lot can change in 2 years and solar is no exception. Like the first campaign, Solarize Atlanta 2.0 will have great products, services, and pricing–but there’s so much more we can and will do!

What is Solarize Atlanta 2.0?

Solarize Atlanta 2.0 is a community-based solar energy group purchasing campaign that makes solar more affordable and accessible for the residents of Atlanta. Campaign organizers are a public-private coalition consisting of the City of Atlanta, Environment Georgia, West Atlanta Watershed Alliance, Georgia Interfaith Power & Light, Sierra Club Georgia Chapter, Partnership for Southern Equity, Solar Crowdsource, Ayika Solutions, Cornerstone Collective, and community leaders and volunteers.

The objectives of the Solarize Atlanta 2.0 program are to:

  • Lower the cost of solar energy and battery storage installations through the power of bulk-purchasing, reduce contractor acquisition costs and transfer those savings to homeowners and business owners of Atlanta;
  • Educate consumers and cultivate a sense of community participation and ownership in the clean energy market;
  • Substantially increase the number of solar energy systems and battery storage installations in a way that can be sustained beyond the timeframe of the Solarize Atlanta campaign;
  • Reduce the energy burden of residents in Atlanta through additional measures available to low- and moderate-income families to reduce upfront cost;
  • Advance and encourage renewable energy workforce development opportunities;
  • Encourage the adoption of solar-friendly permitting practices in Atlanta; and
  • Demonstrate that solar energy is uniquely positioned to address energy equity and energy burden in a direct, enduring, and sustainable way.

A Just Transition

The city of Atlanta resolved to achieve 100% Clean Energy by 2035 and designed its plan to get there in an equitable way. This plan relies in large part on solar technology which converts a free, clean, and renewable source of energy (the sun) directly into electricity for homes and businesses to help reduce electricity bills and transition away from fossil fuels that harm the environment.

Solar energy is uniquely capable of addressing the high energy burden on low- and moderate-income families in a direct, enduring, and sustainable way. Which is why Solarize Atlanta 2.0 is implementing mechanisms within the broader campaign designed to help reduce the high upfront cost of solar and promote inclusive financing options to make solar available for more Atlantans than ever before.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

– Margaret Mead
